The Prick and The Sting

The needle on the bed,
Where you once laid your head.
The Prick and The Sting,
The nothing you bled.
Once was enough,
Sleep when you're dead.

And you feel it,
And you feed it,
And you feel it ain't never enough.

Your blood makes you this way,
Never know what to say.
The Prick and The Sting,
Words gone astray.
Once was enough,
A truth to betray.

And you feel it,
And you feed it,
And you feel it ain't never enough.

The urge, it takes hold,
To have and to mold.
The Prick and The Sting,
The weakness now bold.
Once was too much,
Your premise unfolds.

And you feel it,
And you feed it,
And you feel it ain't never enough.

Fusillade

Blindfold on. Lit cigarette.
My one regret is I have no regrets.
I did it all, I must admit,
My confession is counterfeit.
I bear no grudge. I must respect,
Your decision is circumspect.
Behind the lines, past the barrage,
I am false, I am sabotage.

What's done is done.
The war is won.
I've seen the sun,
Now unleash the guns.
What's done is done.
The war is won.
I've seen the sun,
Now unleash the guns.

Pretense removed, no more disguise.
Are you surprised that we are not allies?
So, here I am for all to see.
Did you believe that there was more to me?

What's done is done.
The war is won.
I've seen the sun,
Now unleash the guns.
What's done is done.
The war is won.
I've seen the sun,
Now unleash the guns.

The war is done and I won't be back home.
I won't be home.

Shaking Hands

Turn the kitchen lights on,
The reflection like stars in the window.
On a cold and lonely night,
Two ghosts haunt each other,
Passing without a word.
The silence never broken,
Accusations left unspoken,
Fall at our feet like glass.

You wanted more, I wanted nothing less.
We left without shaking hands.

Packing up the boxes
With all the trophies of our sorrows.
You left nothing of yourself,
But bits and pieces wrapped up in longing.
We made promises to each other,
In front of God and our mothers,
We signed the contract.

You wanted more, and I want nothing less.
I'm leaving with shaking hands.

You Will Never Be Free

Your dreams are the curse.
Your vision the worst.
You won't be the first to wake up.
Never sun on your face.
Run 'round the maze,
Until you retrace or give up.

You will never be free.
You will never be free.
You will never be free until you've killed what you love.

'Til death do us part.
It seemed from the start,
The world falls apart when we start to kiss.
You haven't felt it in years.
Too exhausted for tears.
Face your fears and reminisce.

You will never be free.
You will never be free.
You will never be free until you've killed what you love.

Everyone answers to someone.
Everyone answers to someone.
Who's accountable for you?
Everyone answers to someone.
Everyone answers to someone.
Who's accountable for you?

You will never be free.
You will never be free.
You will never be free until you've killed what you love.
You will never be free.
You will never be free.
You will never be free until you've killed what you love.

California

She hates songs about California.
She exists on free drinks and cigarettes.
She never sleeps alone when it's cold.
She hates songs about California because she's never been.

She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California.

She loves to stand out in the rain.
She hates to talk about the weather.
She dances with anyone who asks.
She hates songs about California because she's never been.

She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California.

She won't know just where to stay.
She knows too many people out in L.A.
She doesn't know about San Diego.
She might just try the 'Frisco Bay.
She hates songs about California because she's never been.

She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California's nice, if you want to ruin your life.
She heard California.

The stage is set, all the actors know their lines.
It's a revolutionary act.
The stage is set, all the actors know their lines.
It's a revolutionary act of suicide.

Mother, mother please don't do this.
Mother, mother please don't do this.
Lay down your life with your child, with your child.
Mother please lay down your life.

It's a fool who thinks he's winning when he's losing.
I will lay my burden down.
It's a fool who thinks he's winning when he's losing.
I will lay my burden down, lay it down by the riverside.

Mother, mother please don't do this.
Mother, mother please don't do this.
Lay down your life with your child, with your child.
Mother please lay down your life.

Just take a drink and go to sleep.
Take our life from us, take a drink.
Just take a drink and go to sleep.
Take our life from us.
We laid it down 'cause we got tired.

Mother, mother please don't do this.
Mother, mother please don't do this.
Lay down your life with your child, with your child.
Mother please lay down your life.
Mother please lay down your life.

If you want me to be your father, I am.
And if you want me to be your brother, I am.
And if you want me to be your neighbor, I am.
And if you want me to be your savior, I am.
And if you want me to be your father, I am.
And if you want me to be your brother, I am.
And if you want me to be your neighbor, I am.
And if you want me to be your savior, I am.
And if you want me to be your father, I am.
And if you want me to be your brother, I am.
And if you want me to be your neighbor, I am.
And if you want me to be your savior, I am.
And if you want me to be your god, I...

A Penny Dreadful

Paintings of powdered wigmen plastered on the wall.
Lights from the rotunda glaring up and down the hall.
I see you there on the staircase where we first met last fall.
Was it romance when we danced at the Governor's Ball?

I had to leave that evening, I had taken quite poor health.
I couldn't let you see I was a man who had no wealth.
I had a dime from time to time, but I cared not to dwell
In foreign lands with devil'd hands, lest it become my knell.

I started as a grifter charming women for their purse.
I soon moved on to darker things, 'til I became the worst.
And I cared not what became their lot and laid them in a hearse.
Until I saw a thing of awe and strove to break my curse.

It's gone on too long.
I know it's wrong.
Still, I sing my song.

I sought help from every corner, but I was too impure.
I visited a man of God, but he said I was obscured.
A man like me saw me on my knees, and said there was no cure.
"Forget thy sins, begin again, and no longer be unsure."

So here I am this evening, waiting out the night.
I'm sorry to surprise you, love, but you mustn't fright.
Once you see the man in me, I know you will delight.
To me you're trussed, and now you must bare it for the bite.

It's gone on too long.
I know it's wrong.
Still, I sing my song.

I Will Not Lay Down

Morning's cold and wet from rain sometime in the night.
You and me, we didn't hear it at all.
It must've been too light.
'Cause when the thunder 'round here rumbles, you make no mistake.
Louder than the guns of war, guided by the hands of fate.

The sheets are bare and twisted up, and salty with our sweat.
I'd hoped to find you still around, but you'd already left.
A door was slightly opened up to the frosty air.
I guess you had somewhere to be as long as it was not here.

You're always running, gunning for the top of the heap.
I cannot be bothered, I will go back to my sleep.
I will not be lured by promises you cannot keep.
I will not lay down where wolves wait for the weaker sheep.

Lone Wolf

I am a lonely one.
I'm used to going it alone.
I used to be one who was never on my own.
They caught me, and fought me, and taught me who to be.
And all that's left are splinters of me.

Far away in a distant land, building castles in my hand.
Dig deep, find out where the desert meets the sand.
They caught me, and fought me, and taught me who to be.
And all that's left are splinters of me.

I can never go back home.
I'm in too deep.
I reap what I have sown.
Forever alone.

The time has come to do what must be done.
I won't forget just where I came from.
They caught me, and fought me, and taught me who to be.
And all that's left are splinters of me.

To win is to be free, and I have lost what I have won.
And all that's left are splinters of me.
All that's left are splinters of me.

Broken Phone

Alone, next to a broken phone, in a broken home.
A broken home.
No, I won't go back alone.
The bones, you didn't see the bones.
You didn't hear the sound of a hundred pounds falling to the ground.

No, I won't go back home, I won't.
I won't go home.
I won't go back home, I won't.
I won't go home.

All We Have Left

She draws a picture of herself where she is smiling.
She makes a window to a world where she is hiding.
She slips away and she is dying.
She draws a picture of herself.

And she said "Don't be afraid of death, sometimes it's all we have left."
She said "Don't be afraid of death, sometimes it's all we have left."

She's flying. She's flying. She's flying. She's flying.
